April 2022 Newsletter

Turnout took place last week and it’s great to see the cows out and enjoying the fresh pasture during the daytime. We’re still keeping them inside the barn at night for the time being, so they’re currently on a mixed diet of fresh forage during the day and dried forage at night. Come nightfall it’s sometimes been a little chilly, therefore they’ve been quite happy staying in and lying on the cosy straw where it’s warm. But once it’s time for morning milking, the girls are up and waiting at the gate hankering to go out to their next patch of grass. It’s looking like the weather is going to warm up this week so it won’t be that much longer before they’re outside round-the-clock, and with the warmer weather, the pasture should kick on and sustain their appetites for the rest of the Spring. Now, all we need is a little rain please!

With the warmer weather and the cows soon to be out permanently, we’ll be about to enter what’s called the Spring flush where milk yields increase dramatically and we start having to think of new ways to store the extra milk and put it to good use - Any increases or one-off additions to weekly milk, yoghurt or cream orders are always very welcome at this time of year. We’ll also be making ice cream each week. We always try to have most flavours in stock but we’ll have to wait a bit longer until the mint and raspberries are in season before we can start on those two flavours. Over the Easter holidays, while milk orders were low, we were able to restock the freezers with some Vanilla and Chocolate gelatos.

This week we’ve had many mature beef orders going out for delivery and collections. There are a few items left over if you would like to place an(other) order. Currently, we have available…
