Work for us...

We are a small business and job vacancies don't come up that often, but as we grow the business we will post any job opportunities here. Make sure you are subscribed to our mailing list to hear about new vacancies. We are currently hiring for the following position(s):

Lead Dairy Processor @ North Aston Dairy

Start Date: Mid-January

Working Hours: Part-time, 18-24 hours per week, with potential for some occasional overtime. School friendly hours - exact shifts to be discussed at interview.

Salary: From £11.50 to £15ph (£24,000 to £31,000 per annum pro rata) commensurate with applicant experience.

Benefits: Holiday pay + NEST pension + 30% discount off farm products (dairy, meat, groceries). Full training will be given and relevant qualifications funded (eg HACCP).

Job description:

We are looking for somebody to take on day-to-day responsibility for the processing side of our small but established dairy business, working to maintain high standards of hygiene and product quality as we seek to grow the business. This will involve following a strict and regular weekly routine to produce our core products (milk, cream, yoghurt and ice cream), as well as helping us to develop new products such as kefir, butter and cheese.

Ideally, you will have a strong interest in organic / sustainable local food production & distribution. Previous experience working with dairy or food production is desirable but not required. Most of all, we are looking for enthusiasm, energy, and a willingness to learn and innovate.

Some of the work is done alone, and some as part of our small team, so you must be able to communicate effectively with others but also be comfortable and confident working on your own. The job includes some driving so a clean driving licence is a must.

You must be strong and fit and able to lift full milk crates to shoulder height. You must also have a good level of common sense and be able to take the initiative to troubleshoot and solve problems during the production process, while remaining calm under pressure!

There will be occasional early-ish starts (8am) and weekend work, and it is crucial that you are organised and reliable with excellent timekeeping skills, as we have very limited flexibility in our production schedule.

Primary roles:

Supervising all elements of milk processing, to include: bottle washing, pasteurising and bottling milk, making cream, yoghurt and ice cream.

Looking after processing equipment and carrying out routine maintenance tasks

Carrying out general housekeeping and completing daily cleaning duties

Ensuring best practice across all areas of the business, focusing on compliance with all systems and procedures at all times, liaising with the Environmental Health Officer as necessary

Secondary roles:

Helping with meat packing, labelling and order prep

Stock-taking, inputting data and record-keeping

Assisting with on-site events (e.g. volunteer days, dairy tours) and farmer’s markets

Delivering online shop orders to customers in local area

Please note, this is not an exhaustive list and other duties/responsibilities may be required now or at a future date to accommodate the demands of the business. It is expected that the successful candidate will undertake any reasonable tasks at the request of their manager.

How to apply

Please email farmoffice@northastonfarms.co.uk with a covering letter and your CV by Sunday 7th January. Interviews will be taking place during the week commencing 8th January, with the job to start ASAP afterwards. There will be a 3-month probationary period for the successful candidate.
